LZR-1143: Infection (Book One of the LZR-1143 Series) (Kindle Edition)
By Bryan James

First I want to say that I highly recommend this book to zombie fans. It's a fast-paced, well-written page-turner. While it doesn't really break any new ground, it's a solid contribution to the genre that zed fans will appreciate. The main characters -- especially the lead -- actually have memorable personalities, and the setting at the beginning of the book is an interesting way to kick off the story. Bravo on both counts.

The concept is solid, the fight scenes are very descriptive without being overdone, and the author kept overt and gratuitous references to specific weapons noticeably absent which was appreciated by this reviewer.

The only drawback, besides a few minor grammar errors, was an ending that can only be described as cliche beyond belief. I was stunned that such an abrupt and poor excuse for a conclusion had been attached to an otherwise noteworthy novel. I didn't see it coming, but surprises like this you can keep. I don't want to put forth any spoilers, but suffice it to say the entire story gets flipped on its head on the last page or two. It was a letdown.

With that said, I still have to admit that the ride was worth it and I'm glad I read it. This is my first novel by this author, and I'm happy I found this book with the hope that others by him will be just as good... and with better endings.
